Start Planning Your Proposal.

Hi, I’m Heather — the person behind Pixcapades

The mountains have always felt like more than just beautiful scenery to me. They’ve been a place of peace, perspective, adventure, and connection. There’s something about standing in the middle of the Rockies that makes life slow down for a second and reminds you what really matters.

That’s part of why I fell in love with photographing proposals in Rocky Mountain National Park.

I’ve spent years exploring Northern Colorado and the Rocky Mountains, learning how the light moves through the valleys, how weather changes by the minute, which trails become crowded, and where the quieter moments can still be found. Before specializing in proposal photography, I spent 2 years working as a tour guide and photographer in Rocky Mountain National Park, helping people experience the park beyond the typical overlooks and crowded stops.

Those years gave me an incredibly deep understanding of RMNP — not just the trails and locations, but how to create an experience that feels intentional, calm, and meaningful.

Why I Specialize in Proposals

After photographing in Colorado for several years, I realized proposals were the moments I connected with most.

The nerves before the question.

The excitement building on the trail.

The split second everything changes forever.

There’s nothing staged about it. It’s real emotion happening in real time, and that’s what I love capturing most.

That’s why Pixcapades focuses exclusively on surprise mountain proposals in Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park, and Northern Colorado.

Being a Rocky Mountain proposal photographer means more to me than simply taking photos. It’s about helping create an experience that feels authentic to your relationship while preserving the emotions that made it unforgettable.

More Than Just Photos

Planning a proposal in the mountains can feel overwhelming. Between choosing the right location, understanding trail conditions, figuring out timing, avoiding crowds, and trying to keep the surprise intact, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes.

That’s where I come in.

What the Experience Feels Like

Every proposal experience is designed to feel intentional and relaxed—not rushed or overly posed.

1. Planning the Experience

We start by talking through your vision, hiking comfort level, ideal scenery, and overall vibe. Whether you want an adventurous alpine lake proposal or an easy-access overlook at sunrise, we’ll choose a location that fits your relationship naturally.

2. The Adventure Begins

On the day of the proposal, I arrive ahead of time and blend into the environment—often appearing as just another hiker on the trail. Along the way, I quietly capture candid moments, anticipation, nervous excitement, and the natural connection between you both.

3. The Proposal

When the moment happens, you stay fully focused on each other while I document everything discreetly from a distance.

4. The Celebration

After the “yes,” I finally introduce myself and we transition into relaxed, celebratory portraits surrounded by the mountains.

The result is a gallery that tells the complete story—not just the proposal itself, but the feeling of the entire experience.

"Heather and her husband were an absolute joy to work with! My fiancé reached out to them to secretly capture his surprise engagement, and we are so happy he did! The whole experience was magical from start to finish - she was professional, captured the joy & emotion of such an important day, and even took the time to work with my partner to find the perfect location for the proposal! We really appreciated the quick turn-around on the photos too :) Would highly recommend Heather for anyone looking to capture a

special occasion!"

Heather did such a great job with blending in as a hiker taking scenic pictures! So when I was getting proposed to she captured all the great expressions and emotions. Her and my boyfriend pulled off the best proposal ever. I admire her dedication and the effort she puts into her work.“

"We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect experience with Heather during a surprise proposal. From start to finish, everything felt effortless, thoughtful, and genuinely special. She captured the moment so beautifully—every emotion, every detail.

Her ability to stay discreet while still getting the most incredible shots is something I’ll always appreciate. Looking back at the photos, we’re able to relive that exact feeling all over again, which is truly priceless.

Beyond her talent, she was kind, communicative, and clearly passionate about what she does. If you’re looking for someone to trust with such an important moment, this is absolutely the person. We are so grateful and will cherish these photos forever."

"Heather was great! We live in Charlotte NC and she basically handled everything for me. She helped arrange the perfect spot and hiked with us for miles taking candid shots until we got the proposal spot. She got some great pics of the proposal and even took pics of a “fake proposal” for us also at a more secluded spot. She was easy to converse with and was very knowledgeable of the area. 10/10 I’d highly recommend!"

Daniel Tulpa

"Heather and her husband were incredibly supportive and played a huge role in my proposal to my girlfriend. They went above and beyond to ensure that we captured the moment I popped the question and ended up with some fantastic shots of us afterward. I highly recommend Pixapades Photography for any photoshoot with a loved one or a special occasion!"
